Confused, and leaving group

VE5SR/CIW406 Steve <steve.lenaghan@...>

I have been a long time member of TSA EDS in Canada and updated Major Pat's (SK) Manual for the USA
While I am not clear on the ramifications of the net turmoil I have decided  to stay inside the structure I'm familiar with.

For years I have had two complaints with the net as originally structured.
  1. The net is to develop trained operators.  Sorry never say that happens, just local weather and gab, I am beginning to wonder if many of these operators know their local TSA people or have a clue about ICS.  ARES members know their local structure.
  2. The Directed Net falls apart after the introduction.  I try to check in but because the controller does invite check-ins by region I just give up.  Go on a MARS/CFARS Net for how its done.
Using the SATERN name will lead to confusion in a real situation and is a bad idea

Happy to respond to your 'confusion'...
First off, I have been keeping the master database of ALL check in's to the SATERN Net, both before and after our 'split' with TSA. I have been ON the Net just about EVERY DAY for the last 2 years. I have one of (if not THE) best stations in the USA on the Net.
I have never seen your callsign. Once. In over 2 years. Sorry to see you 'go'.

Secondly, and more important, the main goal of my taking over the net as manager was to TRAIN our operators in correct message handling, NIMS/ICS and more effective protocols for handling traffic.
The national SATERN TSA leadership blocked me at every step. They disapproved of me having training, expanding our technologies or connecting with outside agencies on a more useful basis for assisting during emergencies. They were more interested in playing politics and power struggles, with a large bunch of Ego's thrown in. They also did not want us to help anyone but the 'Good Christian Brothers and Sisters' of The Salvation Army. No ARES, no MARS, no ARC. Maybe that works locally during Food Truck operations, but not for an International Net.

Thirdly, our structure for running the net is just fine. We get between 50-100 people checking in each day, many others try but with bad band conditions are unable to do so. We call for check in's until there ARE NO MORE, heard by either the Net Control OR the many relays we have in CONUS.

So, not really sure where your confusion stems from. Perhaps you are trying to check in to a different Net than ours.
Good luck staying within the structure you are familiar with.

Did you mean to say (doesn’t)*??

Now I’m confused.

  1. The Directed Net falls apart after the introduction.  I try to check in but because the controller (does)*?? invite check-ins by region I just give up.
